The Onion Song – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

Released in 1969 the lyrics talk of a world filled with hate and fear – 48 years we still live in such a world. The song, written by Ashford and Simpson, songwriters extraodinaire implore us to walk the path of love and look upon everyone as our brothers and sisters.

“So come on, let’s knock on every door
Tell them love is the answer
Whether they’re rich or poor
Oh, yeah, now, we don’t care what you do
How you look, or your status claim, baby
No no, because brothers and sisters
From now on, is gonna be everyone’s name.”

Probably seems very naive to most people but we’ve tried everything else so perhaps a second summer of love would be a good start.
